Celebrating 50 Years: Central Steel Build’s Legacy of Excellence

Central Steel Build celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of dedication, innovation, and trusted partnerships in the design and construction of high-quality steel buildings. What began as a small backyard operation in Central Victoria in 1975, founded by Ross Edmonds, has grown into a trusted industry leader. Now under the leadership of Managing Director Gerald Edmonds, the company continues to deliver custom-built solutions that stand the test of time.

For 50 years Central Steel Build has built its reputation the old-fashioned way—with hard work, customer service, and trust. These values have laid the foundation for the company’s growth into new areas, and its position as a leader across a full spectrum of industries.  

A history of growth and commitment

1975 – Creating Client Value

Founded by Ross Edmonds in a backyard workshop in Central Victoria, the company began supplying and installing small-scale steel structures and accessories. From the start, a strong focus on customer needs drove innovation, efficiency, and attention to detail, laying the foundation for long-term success. 

1980s/90s – Working Together

Expansion throughout the agricultural sector established a reputation for durable, high-quality buildings. Strengthening partnerships with builders and suppliers fostered a collaborative and results-driven approach, enabling larger, more complex projects across new industries. 

2000s – Openly Communicating

The company diversified into aviation and recreation facilities, expanding its capabilities. Introducing steel fabrication as a core function reinforced a culture of open and responsive communication, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and seamless coordination across projects. 

2010s – Being Respectful

Building on its growing reputation and expertise, the company embraced ahead-of-their-time construction methods like ‘roof-lift’ technology and 3D modelling. Expansion into new states and territories, starting with New South Wales, was guided by a mindset that valued listening to client needs and encouraging innovation. 

2020s – Continuous Improvement

With a focus on innovation and value engineering, the company continues to lead the industry in large-scale commercial and industrial builds. Applying decades of expertise to support the renewables sector, it remains adaptable and forward-thinking, always seeking new opportunities to refine processes and enhance outcomes.  

Today, Central Steel Build serves a broad range of industries across agriculture, industrial, commercial, equestrian, aviation, and recreation facilities. As it embarks on the next 50 years of its history, this will include an increased drive into the renewables sector, using experience and innovation to maintain industry leader status.
