We recently came across an article depicting the secrets of success in the equestrian world quoting Pieter Devos, the Belgian jumping champion.
According to Devos you have to listen to your horse and be ‘pilot’ in the ring. It is impossible to achieve anything great as a team if you do not have a strong connection with your horse. He states that “you listen to your horse and feel what they’re doing and you react off it.”
He also made a beautiful statement that only true horse lovers will understand, “it’s that chemistry between you and your horse that makes you become the perfect combination.” Great things can only come out of a true and deep long-lasting relationship between you and your horse. Devos says that maintaining this relationship is a daily task and it is important to keep your horse happy as a happy horse will lead to vast improvements in performance.
