Gringegalgona farm shearing shed and agricultural yard cover
Project overview
Andrew Whale is a seasoned farm animal veterinarian at Livestock Logic, based near Hamilton, Victoria. When he’s not caring for livestock, he’s managing a sheep farm in partnership with his agribusiness associate in Gringegalgona.
Like many growing agribusinesses, Andrew was facing a common challenge: the need for a new shearing shed and agricultural yard cover to improve on-farm working conditions and to increase time efficiency when shearing.
Andrew began exploring various options available in the market. While he briefly considered having the shed built offshore, doubts about the quality lingered. He was concerned that the materials and construction wouldn’t meet Australian standards or stand the test of time.
Then, by chance, Andrew struck up a conversation with a Central Steel Build employee during a flight. What started as a casual chat soon turned into a discussion about Andrew’s needs for a new shearing shed and yard cover. Intrigued by the possibilities, Andrew shared his details, and a Central Steel Build agricultural specialist followed up with him to arrange a consultation.
What happened next sealed the deal. Andrew was impressed by Central Steel Build’s competitive pricing, combined with a commitment to quality that aligned with his standards. The decision was made, he would proceed with Central Steel Build for his new structures.
From there, the design and engineering process kicked off. Andrew’s vision for the shearing shed and yard cover was unique. Rather than the traditional lean-to extension commonly used for yard covers, Andrew wanted two separate structures connected at one end. His approach would allow for a larger yard system and an undercover storage bay adjacent to the side of the yards, offering more space and functionality.
What began as a simple need for a new shed turned into a collaboration that would help shape Andrew’s farm for years to come.

Project success and impact:
During the quoting and initial design phases on this project, we collaborated closely with the clients to finalise their design preferences and preferred fit-out providers. Once their direction was solidified, the remainder of the design process progressed seamlessly.
The installation process proceeded smoothly and on schedule, thanks to our efficient project management and streamlined internal processes. The shearing shed was fitted out by Commander Agriculture, while Stockpro completed the external yards.
We incorporated elevated access doors, wall vents, and sliding doors, strategically positioned to maximise functionality and efficiency. Throughout the installation, our construction team ensured that the building was finished to provide easy access for the fit-out teams from Commander Agriculture and Stockpro. Andrew and Tim were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the steelwork and the craftsmanship demonstrated by all parties involved.
"I found the entire process to be handled quite professionally, with seamless coordination across different stages. My partner has since decided to proceed with another shed through Central Steel Build, which speaks volumes about our satisfaction. We are extremely happy with the end product and highly recommend their services."
