Ballan Agriculture yard cover
Project overview
To increase working conditions for humans and animals alike, the owners of Ballan Agriculture got in touch with us to design and construct a cover for their sheep yards. The yard cover would have open sides but needed to be designed for maximum weather protection as well.
A shearing shed was situated next to the existing yards. We would need to fit the yard cover in between these two pieces of existing infrastructure.

Challenges and solutions
Due to a contoured site, we had to adjust the design of our structure, making each column length suit the slope. We also adjusted the bay sizes and bracing locations to avoid impeding the working order of the yards beneath.
To ensure higher weather protection whilst maintaining an open-sided cover, we introduced 2m eaves onto the roof.
"Central Steel Build has made our day-to-day lives unrecognisable. From checking weather apps hourly to having freedom with our time in rain hail or shine. Central Steel Build has made it enjoyable for us to continue sheep work in any weather. Now we can leave everything set up as we please, and sheep, dog and human welfare have improved out of sight. The shed is sturdy, reliable, and above all else, the best financial decision that we’ve made. I would recommend Central Steel Build for your next project!"
