Kilchurn Wines production and manufacturing facility

Project overview

Kilchurn Wines is Australia’s premier sparkling wine contract facility, specialising in crafting traditional method sparkling wines. They provide sparkling wine services to numerous wineries across Australia, including custom labeling and packaging.

Kilchurn Wines initially approached us in 2017 for a new packaging and labeling facility. Their brief included traditional corrugated cladding, a prominent roof pitch, and an L-shaped floor plan to seamlessly blend with the existing buildings.

Following the successful completion of this project, Kilchurn Wines commissioned us for the design, fabrication, and construction of an expansive production and storage facility on the same site. Their requirements included a high roof pitch, internal walls delineating different working areas, and strict temperature control, all within an L-shaped floor plan aligned with the previous building. Integration with the client's ventilation system was also crucial.

Challenges and impact

Considerable attention was devoted to drafting the design of Kilchurn Wines' new facility, including the meticulous value engineering of each bay space to optimise the cost-effectiveness of the hip roof connection. This involved iterating through various design versions and close collaboration between the client, our structural draftsman, and engineers.

We carefully tailored the design to accommodate the client's specific workspaces within the building, ensuring that internal walls were strategically positioned for optimal functionality. Additionally, the spacing of roof purlins was customised to accommodate the placement of the client's rotary roof vents. To maintain precise temperature control within the building, extensive insulation was integrated into both the roof and walls, including the internal walls of the structure.

The new structure by Central Steel Build has allowed Kilchurn Wines to expand its operation to service the growing Australian sparkling wine industry.
