Scone Regional Livestock Selling Centre saleyards cover
Project overview
Scone Regional Livestock Selling Centre (SRLSC) serves cattle producers and the equestrian industry in the Upper Hunter Valley and the East Coast. Seeking to extend and enhance their saleyards, they engaged Thompson Longhorn to manage the project. With a trusted relationship already in place, Thompson Longhorn reached out to us at Central Steel Build to design, value engineer, fabricate, and construct the saleyards cover.
Due to the existing yards' alignment with the natural topography, the saleyards cover needed to match the leveling contours precisely. To ensure an accurate fit and functionality, we conducted a thorough site scan and measured the yards meticulously. It was essential that the installation process did not disrupt the saleyards' operations, necessitating a staged construction plan.

Project success and impact:
Using our collaborative project delivery model Pro, we partnered with Thompson Longhorn and SRLSC early in the project to establish a comprehensive understanding of project requirements through multiple site meetings and a site scan. SRLSC emphasised the importance of adequate clearance above walkways and below the roof, prompting us to provide a 3D model for visual demonstration of our solution.
We value-engineered and designed cost-effective guttering and suspended rainwater systems to channel water into on-site tanks and designed the roof with eave overhangs to minimise weather penetration. To ensure uninterrupted operations, we completed the build in five stages, granting SRLSC access to all areas of the yards except the specific section under construction.
